Thank you for your continued prayerful interest in our work, it is much appreciated.

Lawrie Hudson & Directors
Please pray for the Board of Directors as they meet together tomorrow, at 9.30am for vision, wisdom and guidance for the decisions to be made regarding the ongoing future of the work of the Mission.

Leith Gala Day – 9th June 2012
Edinburgh City Mission will be represented at this event together with many local charities.
Please come and visit our display stand, which will be set up from 12 noon, as we endeavour to reach out to visitors with the gospel and make them aware of the work we are doing in the city.
The proceedings start at 12.30pm with the Gala Day Parade from Lochend Park, down Lochend Road and onto Leith Links.
During the afternoon, there will be a full programme of live bands, including gospel singer Steph Macleod at 2pm as well as the many stalls selling everything from arts & crafts, bric-a-brac, antiques and food. There’s pony rides, the annual tug-of-war competition, and live radio with Leith FM on 98.8 Mhz.

Billy McHaffie – Addiction ministry
Thank God for the many opportunities Billy has had in recent weeks to share the gospel and his testimony, as he has been in and around the city centre and Portobello areas and pray that God waters the seeds sown. Pray for opportunities to witness to Muslims, he is going on holiday to Turkey for the next two weeks. Pray that he will be refreshed and rested during this time with his wife Gillian.

Basics Bank – Steve Wright & Sarah Johnson
Continue to pray for Steve and his work in the established Basics Banks –
Portobello – Tuesday within Wilson Memorial UF Church
West Pilton – Tuesday, co-ordinated by Sarah
Pilrig Street – Thursday
Bruntsfield Evangelical Church – Friday, both Steve and Sarah.
Continue to pray for the many needy people who come for practical help with food, they are also listened to and befriended and hear the gospel.
Pray also for the valuable volunteers who assist with this ministry.
Pray as we prepare to open new venues in Wester Hailes and Dalkeith.
URGENT PRAYER REQUEST –
Due to increased demand across the Basics Bank network, some of our staple foods are at very low levels – e.g. Pasta, tinned meat and veg, chopped tomatoes, rice pudding and jam. Can you prayerfully consider a food donation?

West Pilton – Tom Kisitu, Sarah Johnson and volunteers
Continue to pray for Tom, Sarah and volunteers as they visit the homes in the West Pilton area.
Please continue to pray for AC.
A team of American visitors are arriving in the city next Friday 8th June. They are planning a programme of outreach in the West Pilton area and assisting within the ministries of ECM.
Pray for their safety and for the planning and all that is involved in making their stay in the city a pleasant and memorial event.

Cultural Ministry – Paul & Isolde James-Griffiths & Christina Bielska
Pray for the work of the Christian Heritage Centre which opens next week. On Friday Paul and others will be moving display stands, gospel literature, in many languages, and the many features needed for the setting up of this work from the office here in Pilrig Street to St Columba’s Free Church, Johnson Terrace, near the top of the Royal Mile.
Please pray that this outreach will be used to enable many to hear the gospel as they visit the exhibition.
When in town, please pop in and see what goes on!
There is still a need for volunteers Monday-Friday 2-5pm June to September, training will be given.

Workplace – John Hopper
John has had a busy week visiting the workforce in Lothian Buses, Royal Mail and Forth Ports. Continue to pray for him as he witnesses and shares the gospel to those in the workplace. He also visited a Belgian warship this week while in Leith Docks
Continue to pray for his health

David MacLennan, ECM Chairman Writes:

Alex Dunbar, alias the ‘Pillowcase Kid’, never seems to have had much rest from serving Christ in Scotland – apart from his time in England! Now at 84, he has been persuaded to sit down and rest a bit more and write humbly of his life and how, a gravedigger’s son, has been used to bring ‘new life’ to many folks in Edinburgh, Quarrier’s Homes and south of the Border. Who would have thought that a kid from Gorgie might become a great Man of God.

Alex’s second last ministry was in Edinburgh City Mission and included being its Superintendent. As its present Chairman I can really appreciate the legacy of all Alex did there in the name of the Lord. Alex would have been only half the person he was without his dear, now late, wife Rebecca to whom this book is dedicated. Indeed Paul’s self-effacement to the church at Corinth, with which Alex concludes this book, is as relevant to Alex as it was to Paul two thousand years ago. This book will have a readership far beyond Edinburghers! The City of God will have many citizens who have been affected by Alex’ life of selfless service.
