Isolde James-Griffiths
Isolde James-Griffiths, professional soprano and missionary
It has been a growing passion in my life to find a way to use classical music to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When I was 15-years old, the point of my conversion, I felt a distinct call on my life to preach His word through singing.
Since 2005 Isolde has been the founder and singer of ‘Eternity’, a classical chamber music ensemble in and around Edinburgh, which conveys the Christian message through music.
She studied opera at the Music Academy in Darmstadt, and with Esther Salaman in London. In 1997 she won first prize in Oratoria at the Enfield Music and Drama Festival. She has performed with Opera on the Lake (Bromley) as Kate in Madame Butterfly and sang in Lucia di Lammermoor,
Isolde sang with the Clerkenwell Chamber Choir in London and with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus in Edinburgh. Although she has starred in many musicals in the past, her true love is oratorio and song. She is also a singer in the ‘Celtic Tour’ in the Royal Mile, which operates May – June and September –October, every Wednesday at 7.30 pm.
Recently Isolde and Paul combined their outreaches ‘Christian Heritage Centre’ and ‘Eternity’ and produced ‘Music Through The Ages’, with music played on the Royal Mile from 500 AD – 21st Century. This city has always been an attraction and has inspired composers like Carver, Sir John Clerk, Mendelssohn and many more. Music Through The Ages is a unique concert because it brings to life the fascinating history of this famous street through an acoustic and visual experience blended together. Stephen Maniam has especially composed a work for this project to reflect a spiritual message for this century. Music Through The Ages will be repeated in February and October 2011.
