John Hopper - Workplace Missionary

I joined ECM in November 1993 after having spent almost 30 years in the insurance industry, latterly as general manager and local director of one of the world’s largest broking companies. For the last 15 of those years I specialised in the transport industry. This was good grounding for my work today with Lothian Buses, Royal Mail and Forth Ports.

Outside of work, my interests are gardening, reading and music, especially chamber music and modern jazz. I have been married for 42 years and have 2 children and 5 grand children.

I have been involved in active ministry in the Anglican church for some 30+ years which was ideal preparation for the baptisms, weddings and funerals that I carry out as a part of my chaplaincy work. In addition, I spent some 12 years in part-time service with the Royal Navy which again was a perfect to prepare me in visiting ships of the Royal Navy and N.A.T.O. fleets as they visit the ports around the Forth estuary.
